In what was a frustrating afternoon for the Owls against Rotherham on Saturday, one positive from the derby clash was the impact of Lucas Joao.
The Portuguese came on for the second half and made an immediate and notable impression on the game.
Expecting more from the striker in the coming weeks, head coach Carlos Carvalhal believes Joao now brings a new energy to the table, and he explained:
“He created chances, he is in good shape and he is better now than he was in the last two months.
“It is good for us that he comes with new energy.
“In the first half we were not with the quality that we usually play but in the second half when we put Lucas on, it gave more freedom to Gary Hooper behind Lucas and Atdhe Nuhiu.
“We started pressing the opponents, we created chances but we must put the ball inside the net.”
