Opposition view: Credit to the Owls

9 March 2016

Used to scoring plenty of goals on home soil, Brighton boss Chris Hughton says his side were left frustrated after coming up against a resolute Wednesday side.

In the Seagulls’ previous four home fixtures, they have hit an impressive 12 goals but could find no way through the Owls’ rearguard on Tuesday evening.

In fact, in what was a very closest-fought game between two strong sides, the Owls created the better chances over the 90 minutes and finished in a strong manner.

Hughton said: “It was frustrating but you have to give Sheffield Wednesday credit.

“They came here to make it difficult for us. We have been very good at home in the last couple of games and have scored a lot of goals, and they were very conscious of that.

"They worked very hard, but we needed to show a bit more than we did offensively. They are a good Sheffield Wednesday team and we found it hard to break them down.

"They made a few changes, which is what they tend to do when they have two games in a week. They are not in the position that they are in this league for no reason.

"They have been up and around the top six all season and have got good quality and a lot of energy in their side.

"There is a little bit more pressure on you to win games at home. But credit to them, they have got good ability and we were the home side.”
