The correct balance

4 March 2016

In all competitions Wednesday have recorded 14 clean sheet this term so far.

The Owls managed to keep their latest shutout against Hull at The KC last week but not one to get hung up on a tally such as this, Carlos Carvalhal takes a different perspective on the stats.

Whether it be goals, clean sheets or indeed anything that happens on the pitch, the Owls head coach believes everything is a consequence of the team balance.

“I understand the game in a positive way. You must be balanced as a team, the best teams are balanced.

“They are good when they have the ball to try to score, manage the ball and try to open spaces.

“At the same time, these teams usually react very well when they don’t have the ball and they have the balance to recover when the opposition have the ball.

“When we don’t have the ball we have to cover our goal and that is a balance.

“We are not doing clean sheets because we are playing all the time in defence. We are positive on the game.

“The consequence of scoring goals or doing clean sheets is because of the balance and dynamic of the team – I understand the football in this way.”
