Under-21s topple the Terriers

29 March 2016

The Owls Under-21s were back to winning ways on Tuesday, defeating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Middlewood Road.

Chelsea trialist Kevin Wright notched the only goal of the game after the break to seal victory for the Owls.

Wednesday had chances throughout the game to add more goals with Ryan Croasdale hitting the crossbar with a looping header, George Hirst also saw his second half penalty saved and later struck the upright before the visitors managed to clear.

Though despite the Owls’ dominance, Huddersfield had chances to equalise, the best of which came from a free kick as Jack Boyle hit firmly from 20 yards but Joe Wildsmith made an outstanding stop to deny the Terriers.

Neil Thompson said: “We played some nice football and I was pleased with them, though we perhaps could have been more clinical in front of goal.

“Kevin Wright scored the goal, we have him with us from Chelsea and he will play again on Friday against Crystal Palace at Hillsborough.

“Overall, I’m pleased with them all today but they could have made it a little easier by taking their chances.”
