A special night

13 May 2016

Carlos Carvalhal said Wednesday’s 2-0 play-off victory over Brighton was one of the best performances of the season.

The Owls took the lead in the first half from a stunning Ross Wallace strike.

Brighton were forced to make three early changes in the game due to injuries and had to see the tie out with ten men when Anthony Knockaert was unable to continue with the Seagulls out of substitutions.

Keiren Lee scored a second goal for Wednesday in the second half which sees them take a 2-0 win to Brighton on Monday for the second leg.

Carvalhal said: “Tonight we did one of the best performances of the season.

“We played like we did against Cardiff and Arsenal.

“We wanted the team to be balanced and play with intensity and we did this very well.

“We won the game but we have won nothing else yet, we need to play on Monday like the score is 0-0.”

Over 34,000 fans illuminated Hillsborough for the first leg with Wednesday fans vibrant throughout the match and Carvalhal said the supporters more than played their part.

He said: “The way our massive fans reacted was brilliant.

“The atmosphere in the ground was unbelievable and it created some magic.

“I am sure this is a game they will remember for some time because it means a lot.

“I think they will be talking about this for the next few weeks and maybe more.”
