October’s swfc.co.uk Player of the Month Sam Hutchinson has everything required to be a top defender according to head coach Carlos Carvalhal.
The former Chelsea man has slotted into his central defensive role seamlessly this season.
Underlined by winning the fans’ vote twice this season in the Player of the Month polls, Carlos is happy with the contributions of the 27-year-old.
“He is the kind of player that when you manage him well and keep the correct balance between training and recovery, he can do very well," he said.
“With Sam, we decided to put him at centre half, why?
“We believe he is a really fantastic defender, he’s strong, he plays very well with the ball, our football is good and we start a lot from the back.
“He is aggressive, he is good in the air and has everything to be a top central defender.”
He added: “At this moment he is playing regularly and he is doing very well in his position.
“I think it was a good decision on our part to put Sam in the defence.”
