Bannan set for Owls milestone

3 November 2016

Barry Bannan is one game away from making his 50th league appearance for Wednesday.

The Scottish international clocked up his 49th appearance for the Owls in the Championship last weekend in the clash with Derby.

Bannan joined the Owls in late August 2015, making his debut away at Burnley in mid-September and went on to enjoy a fantastic maiden season at Hillsborough.

His hot form at club level earned the 26-year-old a recall to the national side, where he played his part in the 1-0 win over Czech Republic in March 2016.

Now established in Gordon Strachan’s squad, the midfielder has featured in all three of the Scot’s World Cup qualifiers so far.

To mark a fine term for the midfield ace, Bannan was named in the PFA Sky Bet Championship Team of the Year in 2015/16.

He has made 14 appearances for the Owls this season, scoring one goal in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Bristol City at Hillsborough.

During the international break next week, Bannan – along with Owls team mate Steven Fletcher – is in the Scotland squad to face England at Wembley on Friday 11 November.
