Ex-Wednesday boss Ron Atkinson will be signing copies of his new autobiography ‘The Manager’ at the Owls Megastore on Sunday 4 December.
The signings will take place between 11.00am and 1.00pm.
Ron took charge of nine different clubs during his colourful managerial career but it’s at Hillsborough where he undeniably left one of his biggest marks.
Joining in February 1989, Ron saved the Owls from relegation only for his new-look team to fall through the trapdoor in heartbreaking circumstances next time out.
But Wednesday made an immediate return to the top flight and defied the odds to also lift the Rumbelows Cup in the same campaign.
A 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final at Wembley – thanks to a John Sheridan strike – saw Atkinson’s men lift their first major trophy since the FA Cup triumph of 1935.
After dramatically parting company in the summer of 1991, Big Ron would make a brief but successful return to Wednesday in November 1997, helping the club to avoid relegation after a poor start to the 1997/98 Premier League campaign.
In his book he details both spells at Hillsborough, while giving a full account of his life in football.
‘There are only two big games I’ve been involved with where I knew we were going to win long before kick-off. The 1985 FA Cup Final when Manchester United played Everton and the 1991 League Cup final when Sheffield Wednesday faced Manchester United.’
