Owls coach Danny Cadamarteri has spoken of his delight for academy duo Fraser Preston and Jordan Lonchar after signing their first professional contracts at Hillsborough.
Preston put pen to paper last Friday and team mate Lonchar followed suit on Monday, both signing until summer 2019.
Focusing on 17-year-old Preston, Cadamarteri has praised the winger after coming through a challenging period in his fledging career.
A number of players from Preston’s age group penned their first professional deals last year, including the likes of Jack Lee and Connor Kirby.
Explaining the process with Preston, Cadamarteri said: “Fraser has had to be very patient to earn his professional contract.
“A lot of the lads did well last year and were offered contracts early.
“His team mates were rewarded but with Preston - who could be fantastic at times - we wanted him to achieve a level of consistency.
“And full credit to him because he has come back this season and from minute one, been outstanding.
“He came back after the summer in good shape and has been very consistent. His consistency levels have been very high all season and he has been unbelievable for the Under-18s.
“He now has a fantastic opportunity to continue and step up when put with the 23s.”
Jordan – who turned 17 last week – has likewise committed to Wednesday until June 2019 after impressing at Hillsborough.
The pacey winger scored twice for the Under-18s against Bolton on Saturday and capped a productive period by signing his Owls contract on Monday.
Pleased for the youngster, Cadamarteri added: “Jordan has signed his first professional contract and he has been an ever present for the Under-18s.
“He’s come in this year, scored a number of goals, he’s worked hard and we’re really pleased for him.
“We now want the consistent levels to remain high for both of them and for them to be role models in the academy.”
