Believing in the collective

6 October 2016

Carlos Carvalhal may have been short-listed as one of the outstanding candidates in the Championship Manager of the Month award but strongly underlines the power of the collective.

The head coach says everybody connected with the club has played some part in this nomination.

September saw Wednesday pick up four wins from five games and Carlos said:

“You know what I think about individual prizes in football, I believe more in the collective.

“When it’s about a coach it means it is a collective. It is personal of course, but it represents the work of a lot of people.

“Starting with the chairman, the fans, the staff and the players and when this kind of thing happens everybody must be happy and proud.”

Carlos has emphasised the importance of remaining balanced going forward and explained:

“We understand that if the team is more balanced during the marathon then it can do something.

“We are growing up the team and in this process, sometimes you take one step back to go two steps forward.

“But we are more balanced and with the fans in our environment, we can achieve something.

“Last month in five games we won four, I think we should have won five because in Birmingham we deserved the win.

“This nomination does not represent me personally but Sheffield Wednesday and all the fans.

“It like a tribute to what we are doing in the club and all the things we have changed in a short time.”
