Special club, special tradition

27 October 2016

With Liam Palmer having penned a new contract with Wednesday until 2019, the defender has shared his delight of playing at a "special" club.

The Owls' academy graduate enjoyed a hugely productive loan spell at Tranmere in 2012/13 and since his return to Hillsborough, Palmer has become a firm favourite at his boyhood club, with 142 appearances to date.

The 25-year-old said on his attachment to Wednesday: "There's nowhere else I'd rather be. It's a special club, we’ve got a massive fan base and that's what drives the players ultimately.

"The pressure and the expectations are something we are aware of. It's how we use that for the better rather than letting it overcome us."

The 2013/14 Player of the Year then praised Carlos Carvalhal's impact on the team, saying: "He is very in-depth in what he wants us to do, and knowing your role works well for the lads.

"The groundwork that he does guides you through all the way. I cannot praise him enough. What he has achieved so far is fantastic really."
