Yesterdays: Owls sign Benito Carbone

14 October 2016

The Owls set a new club transfer record on this day 20 years ago, signing Benito Carbone for £3m from Italian giants Inter Milan.

The diminutive forward, who was signed by David Pleat, scored 26 goals in 107 appearances during his four seasons at Hillsborough.

Carbone later went on to play for Aston Villa, Derby and Middlesbrough before returning home to Italy, commanding an £800,000 fee when moving from Bradford to Como in July 2002.

The striker also had stints with Parma, Vicenza, Sydney FC and Pavia before heading into coaching.
