Good signs for the future

The Owls Under-23s have enjoyed a very positive start to their campaign.

And it’s even more impressive given the age of the players involved, according to Owls coach Steven Haslam.

With plenty of development ahead of the youngsters who are impressing against tough opposition, Haslam said:

“We are very pleased with the players and how they are performing. Given that we are quite a young group, with many still eligible to play in an Under-18 or 19 squad, they are doing very well.

“It’s a group we think a lot of, they are learning fast and have to develop quickly. We want to see them put that into play and show their work ethic. We are really pleased with them.”

Wednesday picked up their third victory of the season away at Watford on Monday evening, coming from 1-0 down at Vicarage Road to win 4-1.

The Under-23s have also picked up wins over Millwall and Birmingham, while drawing with Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

Following the victory over Watford, Haslam continued: “The lads showed a lot of character to come back after an early goal. You never want that to happen but the response was good.

“We feel we could have won the games we drew but it’s about learning how to win.”
