Good to be back

14 September 2016

New recruit Urby Emanuelson donned the blue and white shirt for the first time featuring for the Under-23s this week against Crystal Palace at Middlewood Road.

Emanuelson enjoyed a confident shift in the back line after arriving at Hillsborough as a free agent in early September.

The Amsterdam-born defender brought a wealth of experience to S6, proving his credentials with the likes of Ajax, AC Milan and Roma while playing at both left back and down the wing with equal aplomb.

Happy to resume his duties in the rearguard, the Dutchman exclusively told swfc.co.uk following the 2-2 draw: "It has been a while, of course.

“It felt good to be back on the pitch and to work in a group. I am feeling great.

“Unfortunately, we did not win the game but I enjoyed being part of the team."

The recent international break brought with it some welcome time to gel with his new surroundings and Emanuelson has hailed the atmosphere around Hillsborough.

He said: “The atmosphere is really good. There are some great lads. Everybody is really positive and trying to help me.

"It just feels good to be back and work with your team mates from day one. I am very positive and for me now, it is all about getting my full match sharpness.

"The competition is always there when you are coming into a good team. But we play a lot of games and the competition is really tough. So we need everybody. I hope I can help the team to some success.”
