Home form crucial, says Bannan

Back to back wins at Hillsborough has served as a huge boost for the Owls.

Victories over Wigan and Bristol City have given Wednesday the perfect start to the month ahead of the televised trip to Birmingham on Saturday.

Wednesday had to come from behind both times, first against Wigan to win 2-1 and then from 2-0 down at the break to defeat the Robins 3-2.

For any side to be successful in the Championship, Barry Bannan says home form is always crucial.

He explained: “Last season we turned Hillsborough into a fortress and it was hard for teams to come here.

“Winning your home games is massive in this league. If you win your home games, you give yourself a good chance.

“With the crowd that we have coming to games, it’s brilliant. It’s always going to be tough for teams coming here.”

Although Wednesday have collected six points from six in September the hard way, Bannan believes his side’s never-say-die attitude has been key to their success.

He told swfc.co.uk: “We made it hard for ourselves in the first half on Tuesday, it wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t Sheffield Wednesday.

“But we’re resilient, we stick together and don’t panic. We came out in the second half against Bristol City and put on a real display.

“We have a never-say-die attitude at this club and we keep going and going.”
