The international break has served Wednesday well with new additions settling into the side and the return to action of those in the treatment room.

Captain Glenn Loovens stored another valuable 90 minutes under his belt for the Under-23s on Tuesday, as did Vincent Sasso and Will Buckley.

Meanwhile, the period has proved useful to new recruits Adam Reach and Urby Emanuelson and Carlos Carvalhal said:

“The break was good to Reach, to Urby, to Jones and also the players that come more late.

“It is good for them to understand exactly what we want.

“It was good to rest some players, to increase the timings of others like we did with Buckley, Sasso and Loovens to give them more time to play.

“We did very well last game and would like to play as soon as possible after that but the break has put everyone more focused to exactly what we want.

“We are looking forward to playing at Hillsborough in front of our supporters. We like to do that.”

Happy with the progress Loovens is making towards his return, Carlos added:

“We were happy with the performance of Loovens, Sasso and Buckley because they need games and minutes. We were happy with what they did in that game.

“It was good for them to increase their tempo. If they play in that game then they are ready to play at any time.”
