Striding forward and improving the team

10 September 2016

Carlos Carvalhal says Wednesday are moving forward and continually making steps to become better and better.

Assessing his surroundings, the staff and playing squad at Hillsborough, the head coach firmly believes the Owls are stronger than at the same point last season.

As the Owls resume their Championship campaign this afternoon at home to Wigan, he said:

“We are making steps forward, we want to do better and better.

“Since we arrived at Sheffield Wednesday, all the time we are improving the team and the team is getting better and better, as is the squad.

“We are taking steps ahead, we are better now than we were one season ago, we have quality, but we are in competition where a lot of teams have quality also.

“It is a competition where we must fight and run a lot to win the games and you must be as one team – not just with the 11 but with the squad, with the coaches and the fans.

“If we act like a team then all the time we will be strong.”

The Owls came away from Brentford two weeks ago with a point, though in terms of a turning point in the season, it could well prove a lot more.

Carlos explained: “We showed that at Brentford, everybody was pushing in the same direction and in that moment we felt how strong we are.

“We showed our heart and soul and the fans and players stayed happy, even though we didn’t win, because of the way we played.

“We found something in that game.”
