Focused from the word go

Keiren Westwood has lavished praise on his team mates for their response on Tuesday evening at The New York Stadium.

Having conceded a late equaliser at Barnsley three days prior, Westwood says the boys returned to training on Monday with a fantastic attitude, focus and determination to bounce back.

Two first half goals from Steven Fletcher saw Wednesday return to winning ways in the South Yorkshire derby against Rotherham.

“We were really up for this game after what happened last Saturday, conceding so late but that’s gone now,” Westwood said.

“We were focused from the first minute we came into training on Monday and we were right at it from the get-go.

“Rotherham got relegated on Saturday and you never know what that will do to a side.

“We had to make sure they didn’t get confidence from anything in the game and that’s credit to the lads - two goals, a clean sheet and we were delighted.”

Six games of the regular season remain, starting with a huge clash against Newcastle on Saturday evening at Hillsborough.

Westwood added: “We have six games left, anything can happen in this league, we enjoyed the last game but we’ve moved on now to Newcastle.

“You try your best, try your hardest, you want to win every game but you have to be realistic, you’re not going to do that.

“Every 90 minutes is different, it was a good result on Tuesday, in a derby and now we move on.”
