Home run key for Owls

6 April 2017

Four of the Owls’ remaining six games of the Championship campaign will be staged at Hillsborough and Glenn Loovens says this is a huge positive for the club.

Wednesday moved back into the top six on Tuesday with the 2-0 victory over Rotherham.

From back to back South Yorkshire derbies away from home, the Owls posted four points from the games with Barnsley and the Millers.

Now into the home straight with six games to go, Wednesday begin the run-in with a home clash against league leaders Newcastle on Saturday (5.30pm).

“Playing four of the last six at Hillsborough is a positive for us. We like playing at home, we have our fans fully behind us and they create the perfect environment for the players,” Loovens said.

The Owls emerged victorious after a tough battle on Boxing Day in the revere fixture at St James’ Park.

Loovens was the man of the moment on that occasion, scoring the winning the goal – his first for the club.

“It was a good memory for me,” he added. My first goal for Sheffield Wednesday. It is always going to be a good game against Newcastle.

“I don’t think they will be thinking about the last game Boxing Day, a lot of football has been played since then.

“They are experienced players, they are up where they are in the league because of their quality and we know what to expect.

“Our only focus is this game.”
