Improving the quality

11 April 2017

Carlos Carvalhal believes Wednesday made good use of the recent international break, bringing key players back into the equation and improving the quality in the process.

Since then, the Owls have posted seven points from a possible nine and produced one of their performances of the season against Newcastle on Saturday.

Currently occupying sixth spot, with high confidence and expectations for the final five games of the season, the head coach said:

“You know what I said before the Barnsley game after the break, we had wishes to improve the quality and to bring players in to link the game.

“After Rotherham, we win 2-0 and in that moment, we believed our quality of play would improve again.

“We had expectations to be nearer our high standards because we needed this level to achieve points against Newcastle.

“Even with the players that felt problems during the game, like Gary Hooper because he hasn’t played for almost four months and some other players who had been out of the team also, they were all fantastic.

“The links are inside the team, everybody is important but we need links in the team and now the quality is better.

“We win more confidence and this is a good signal for the future because these players will be more fit, they will play more, they will be with more tempo.

“We will continue to be stronger for sure.”
