Owls disappointed with derby draw

1 April 2017

Carlos Carvalhal said he was disappointed not to come away with all three points following the Owls’ 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Oakwell.

Ex-Tykes striker Sam Winnall opened the scoring for Wednesday in the second half before Angus MacDonald levelled for the home side with an injury-time header.

Carvalhal said: “Today we came to win the game.

“In the first half, none of the goalkeepers had much to do, then we scored the goal.

“Barnsley didn’t cause us any problems until the final five minutes, so it’s disappointing that we didn’t win.

“As I’ve said before, in the Championship, getting a second goal is very important but unfortunately we didn’t do this.

“We were forced to make changes during the game with Sam Hutchinson coming off, this is never good as it means we can’t make changes later in the game.

“They scored is from a free kick in injury time, these things happen in football.

“What we have to do is in our hands and we now look forward to Tuesday, where we will be fighting to win as always.”
