Proud and looking forward

13 April 2017

Ahead of Carlos Carvalhal’s 100th game as head coach, he’s told swfc.co.uk there are many things during the past 99 games to be proud of.

With countless highlights, ups, downs and a change in philosophy at the club over the past two years, Carlos reflects fondly but more importantly, looks forward to the future.

He explained: “There are three important angles; the confidence of the chairman, the confidence of the players and the confidence of the fans.

“I have full confidence with all, I’m happy and if these three angles stay the same I will stay in the club a long time. That is my wish.”

The 100-game landmark for the Owls head coach will arrive in less than two full seasons in charge – a concept very strange for the former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas manager, as he explained:

“Usually in my country 100 games is three seasons! You would need three seasons to achieve 100 games.

“100 games is very good in the Championship, I think I read in the media the average for coaches to stay is one year and three month.

“Very good coaches during this period were in the Championship and they are not here now.

“When you stay all this time and you stabilise a team in the sixth position for almost two seasons, it is very good.

“It’s not easy to achieve, but we are stabilised with the natural pressure of the Championship.

“I’m very proud, not just about 100 games but because in this period we have changed the philosophy of the club.

“After the first two or three months, we have our style and we still have our style and are progressing.”
