Pushing the players

7 April 2017

Carlos Carvalhal says the outlook is positive with regard to key players making their return to action at a crucial time in the season.

In recent weeks, the head coach has welcomed Tom Lees and Gary Hooper back into the fold after lengthy absences.

Looking around the training complex at Middlewood Road, Carlos is delighted to see the likes of Fernando Forestieri and Kieran Lee pushing closer and closer.

So much so, Forestieri could feature on Saturday against Newcastle United as Carlos explained:

“We work with the players and know if they are in good shape, not in good shape, physical condition etc.

“We miss for a long time players like Gary Hooper, Tom Lees, Kieran Lee, Fernando Forestieri.”

The return of Forestieri and Lee will serve as a huge boost for Wednesday in the run-in and further explaining his team news for the Magpies clash, Carlos added:

“They are players that can be involved but we know not for the 90 minutes.

“But we know they can affect the game in a part of the game or in the beginning if we decide.

“During today and throughout the next weeks, we need to push the players.

“I have good expectations Kieran Lee can be involved this month but we know these players are not completely fit to play, like the image people have about these players.

“But even with 45/60 minutes, these players can affect the game.

“With Fernando, if everything is ok today he can be involved on Saturday. Let’s see if it’s from the beginning or from the bench.”
