Development Squad coach Neil Thompson has poured the praise on his young charges as the Owls were crowned Professional Development League 2 champions on Monday night.
Hull’s defeat against Birmingham meant the Tigers were unable to catch Wednesday at the summit.
And Thompson said the players received their just reward after a consistent campaign that led to their title triumph.
He said: “I’m really proud of the lads and all the staff. They have done great all season.
“It is terrific to have had such a good level of consistency this year.
“We have been solid defensively and not given a lot of goals away and we have managed to get the goals to win the games.
“We had a little bit of an indifferent start and an iffy finish but we had a spell in the season where we got lots of wins back to back.
“Credit to all the boys who have played. They should be really proud of themselves.”
He added: “The players have had a long season so the break gives them a little bit of time to recharge their bodies.
“We will get on to the hard work preparing for the play-offs next week.
“The play-offs are a knockout competition but the lads are more than capable of doing well.”
The Owls will entertain southern division winners Millwall in the play-off semi final, with details to be confirmed in due course.
