We got the job done

Carlos Carvalhal reflected with pride as the Owls posted a thoroughly professional performance in beating relegated Rotherham 2-0 on Tuesday night.

A first half brace from Steven Fletcher did the damage and Wednesday welcome promotion favourites Newcastle to Hillsborough on Saturday back in the top six.

The visitors did what they had to do, leaving the head coach satisfied with his side’s work at the New York Stadium.

He said: “First of all, let me congratulate Rotherham on giving their all when they were relegated at the weekend.

“In many countries, relegated teams do not play with the same intensity, but not here and not Rotherham.

“They gave everything tonight and we had to deal with long balls, with long throw-ins and corners but we gave a good answer.

“We showed our quality with the two goals from Steven Fletcher. I am pleased for him and I am pleased for the players and our massive fans.”

He added: “We now have six games to go, four are at Hillsborough and we need the help of our fans in all our games.

“We play Newcastle next – this will be a different challenge and different kind of game but we will be ready, for sure.

“We will be giving everything, we will be doing our best in front of 30,000 fans and most of them will want to see Sheffield Wednesday win the game.

“We hope to have more options again – we have good expectations for Fernando Forestieri, he will train with the group and we will see.

“Vincent Sasso’s suspension is now over and it was good tonight to see Ross Wallace and Gary Hooper recover.

“The more options we have the better.”
