Don't wake me up!

17 August 2017

Wednesday’s new centre back Frederico Venancio says he is looking forward to the physical English game and is out to make an impression during his time at the Owls.

The Portuguese joined the club before Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland in midweek on a season-long loan from top flight Vitoria Setubal.

The 24-year-old told swfc.co.uk: “I am so pleased to receive the opportunity from Sheffield Wednesday and the coach.

“I think with the physical side I will be very good to adapt to English football.

“I saw many games from the Championship and Premier League and the English game is very physical, so for me it’s going to be really great to be here and show my quality.

“I’m aggressive, I think I’m a good aerial player but also I love to have the ball to construct an offensive game from the back.”

Venancio joins a rearguard that has matched the club’s all-time clean sheet record of 17 three seasons in a row, and he wants to hit the ground running to be a part of the Owls’ solid defence.

He added: “When you arrive here, your goal is to play, I know it’s going to be hard because I have team mates that have a lot of quality so I will have to do my best and try to catch an opportunity.

“This year is going to be my opportunity to show to this club and I hope so in the end of the season they will buy me to be here many, many years.

“This is a dream come true, so don’t wake me up!”
