Owls to make late call on Loovens

15 August 2017

A late call will be made on Glenn Loovens to determine the skipper’s availability against Sunderland tomorrow night.

The captain had his afternoon cut short through injury against QPR but has since made steady progress.

“Glenn felt a very strong kick, very hard in that day and next day very difficult to walk,” Carlos Carvalhal explained.

“Yesterday he was walking better and today is much better, let’s see tomorrow if he ok.

“If the game was today, he could not play, for sure. But tomorrow, we will see if he can recover or not but he is progressing very well.”

The head coach confirmed that Sam Hutchinson, although his injury not as serious as first feared, will miss the Black Cats encounter.

He added: “Sam Hutchinson is not so serious like we expected in that moment, it is something around the muscle of the knee, not exactly on the knee.

“It will take more time but not serious like it looked in that moment.

“At the beginning we stayed very concerned but after the exam it didn’t mention a very hard situation.

“In this moment, he is not available but we believe soon he can be back to training.

“With Kieran Lee, he is progressing slowly with the situation to be more strong around the hip, we must wait a little more for him.”
