All about the win

3 February 2017

Carlos Carvalhal said there is plenty more to come from his side but Friday’s success at Wigan was all about the win.

Ross Wallace’s goal just before half time settled a game that was anything but a Sky TV classic and Carvalhal had his focus firmly on the three points.

He said: “We have played our last three games away from home and I believe we played better in the previous two against Bristol City and Brighton, when we achieved one point.

“Tonight this was not the best performance but we achieve all three points and that is the most important thing.

“I am absolutely sure that last season, we would lose this game. I remember a similar game at MK Dons, it was at night, it was cold and raining and we lost 2-1.

“Tonight, the conditions were similar but we ground out the win 1-0. Sometimes you must have wins like these, it is normal.”

The Owls now have a week before their next contest, another live TV clash, this time with Birmingham at Hillsborough.

And the head coach believes the level of performance will only increase back on home soil.

He added: “It seems a long time since we were playing at Hillsborough and this is where we prefer to play.

“We have ten of our last 17 games at Hillsborough and this can only be an advantage.

“Tonight we showed a different side to our play and I am sure that the next game will see a performance more like our style.

“But we have the win, we have the points, it has been a tough week with all the travelling, and we are now looking forward to the next two games we have at our home."
