Bannan scoops Sky Bet Man of the Match award

4 February 2017

Barry Bannan was named as the Sky Bet Man of the Match following the Owls’ 1-0 win over Wigan on Friday evening.

The victory moved Wednesday back into the top six and the Scot says it was important to return to winning ways.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “It’s a massive win, we went on a really good run recently but we’ve had a few disappointing results with games that should have gone our way but didn’t.

“So it was good to come to a difficult place and get the three points.”

Wednesday registered their 12th clean sheet of the campaign at The DW Stadium and Bannan believes that has been key to the Owls’ successes.

Standing alongside skipper Glenn Loovens, he added: “The captain has been fantastic all season alongside Tom Lees and the full backs are doing brilliant.

“Sasso came in tonight, he hasn’t played a lot of football this season but showed he’s ready and that’s what we’ve built ourselves on this season, clean sheets and having quality going forward to score goals."
