The Owls’ Under-18s were edged out 1-0 by Birmingham at Middlewood Road on Saturday.
A relatively even game ultimately went the way of the visitors, who scored the only goal of a first half in which they asked more of the questions.
Wednesday re-grouped for the second period and certainly created better openings but could not penetrate a well organised Blues backline.
Coach Steven Haslam said: “We had a depleted team today and the boys gave everything but Birmingham just had that little more on the day.
“We were better in the second half and stayed in the game but I don’t think we did quite enough going forward.
“But this is the first league defeat for the boys since November so hopefully they can bounce back next week at Leeds.”
