Fulfilling a Hillsborough ambition

7 February 2017

Jordan Rhodes says it has been a long-held ambition of his to walk out at Hillsborough as a Wednesday player.

On Friday night, the prolific Championship striker could well make this a reality.

As the Owls host Birmingham under the lights and in front of the Sky cameras, Rhodes is excited to make his S6 bow.

Explaining his desire to wear the Owls badge in front of Wednesdayites at Hillsborough he said:

“I’ve wanted to play for Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough for a few years now.

“Watching the odd game, obviously coming here when I was with Huddersfield, Blackburn and Middlesbrough, as a player you just want to play in front of that kind of support.

“I saw them first hand at the play-off final which was just incredible and to have that kind of passion on a regular basis is one of the reasons I wanted to come here.

“Coming to Hillsborough and watching my dad’s team, you can feel the history and the atmosphere all around the place.

“It’s a club of great tradition and it will be a great feeling to walk out there for the first time as a Wednesday player.”

Rhodes made a telling contribution in his debut last week at Wigan as the forward claimed an assist for Ross Wallace’s winning goal and he continued:

“It’s very exciting, I want to add to the squad and work towards the collective aim and that is to get out of this league.

“I want to work even harder than I have done before to help get this club where it needs to be. I’m hungry to make up for lost time and want to make an impact at this club.”
