Carlos Carvalhal acknowledged that the Owls were far from their best against Blackburn but fully welcomed the three points following the 2-1 win at Hillsborough.

Vincent Sasso’s double did the damage as Wednesday posted their third successive victory, which, Carlos said, is by far the most important thing:

“We now have maximum points from the last three games. We didn’t play so well at Wigan but win, we played well against Birmingham and win and we play not so well tonight and we win.

“So I know our performance tonight was not the best but the victory tastes very sweet.

“In games like this last season, we would have drawn or lost but we have won so I will enjoy the victory and now we move on to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.”

The head coach is expecting a different test by the Trent given Rovers’ placing in the bottom three this evening.

He explained: “I think the game will be different because I expect it will be more of a game of football.

“Blackburn are fighting for their lives, they threw men forward and sometimes they played six men up front as they went for an equaliser.

“So we dropped more players back to counter this, which disturbed our shape.

“But we battled well, we played very hard and the most important thing is the three points, which we achieved.”
