Owls top social media charts!

7 February 2017

Sheffield Wednesday have topped the Fanalyse Activate league table for January, ranking highest in the Sky Bet Championship for social media fan engagement.

The Owls’ monthly score of 54.9 combines performance figures and engagement across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, taking posts, likes, shares, comments, sentiment, retweets and more into account.

The calculations produce a level playing field Fanalyse Activate Social Score that looks beyond the simplicity of follower numbers in order to find the clubs and organisations who are most effective and engaging when it comes to social media communications.

Fanalyse Activate reported: “Ranking posts in Facebook, where Wednesday were also top of the pile, include fan favourite Fernando Forestieri’s contract extension, along with reaction to the Italian striker’s birthday. Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal won the most Facebook ‘love’ in January however, thanks to his Huddersfield pre-match video post.

“Sam Winnall’s arrival produced a positive reaction on Instagram, as did Ross Wallace’s rocket of a goal against the Terriers. To their credit, the Wednesday communications team are consistently active and creative with behind the scenes photos and content.

“Strong activity on Twitter also contributed to the Owls’ success, where an average 12.7 posts per day keeps fans informed. Fans are kept in the loop with an impressive mix of updates, videos, photos and more, outlining the club’s commitment to providing supporter insight.”

The social media scores were compiled by Fanalyse Activate, a Cardiff based award-winning sports business consultancy with 40 years combined football industry experience, Fanalyse Activate focus is on helping clubs, venues and organisations understand and activate an omni-channel approach to increase growth, engagement and brand affinity.
