Strong signals

17 February 2017

A strong belief held by Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal is that his side will grow stronger and stronger as the season goes on.

The stats suggest exactly that, taking into account the past 15 games.

Since mid-November, following the Owls’ 1-1 draw with Fulham, Wednesday have posted 31 points from their last 15 games.

An impressive points-per-game ratio of 2.07.

To add to that, the Owls have conceded the fewest goals in the same period, just 10 in the last 15, gaining the most clean sheets (8) and suffering the fewest defeats (2).

Although pleased with his side’s superb return, Carlos says he is only focused on the present, which is preparations for Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

He said: “The stats are very nice and I appreciate to receive them but to me, the only thing important is the next game.

“We are completely focused on preparing the team and fighting for the three points in our usual way.

“We have a brand, we have our way and we go to Nottingham Forest on Saturday trying to win the game.

“I said before, we will get stronger and stronger. We will recover players, we will have more options in the future. We are in a very strong position to go on and achieve more victories, if we continue our way which is to focus and go game by game.

“At the end, we will see what we can achieve. The only time the league position will count is on the last day of the season.”
