We miss playing at Hillsborough!

7 February 2017

Carlos Carvalhal says his players are ready for their return to Hillsborough.

When the Owls host Birmingham on Friday evening, it will be the first game at Hillsborough in almost a month since victory over Huddersfield in January.

Wednesday have since had a demanding schedule with three successive away fixtures, including long trips to Brighton and Bristol City.

But Carlos and his team are now prepared for a double header at home, starting with Birmingham on Friday and then Blackburn on Tuesday.

He said: “We miss playing a lot at Hillsborough.

“The calendar is very strange. The Brentford match was re-arranged so we have played three games in a row away from home.

“But ten of our last 17 matches are at home and it will be a fantastic challenge for us. All teams win some confidence when they play at home in front of their fans.

“We will play in a good environment and make life difficult for our opponents. I have a good feeling about the next few games.”

The Owls have a strong record on home soil under Carlos with 27 of his 41 games in charge in all competitions resulting in victory (66%) and just five defeats, with 72 goals scored, while conceding only 30.

He added: “We are stronger at home in front of our massive fans, for sure. We need to feel their power, for them to create a difficult environment to our opponents and get right behind the players.

“You can never predict this league, there are no easy games but the fans can play their part and we will need them now more than ever.”
