The Sheffield Wednesday Under-15s host Newcastle United this evening at Hillsborough in the U15 Floodlit Cup.
Kick-off tonight is 6.30pm and admission is £3.
The competition, which was first introduced last season, is a Champions League-style format for the upcoming stars of the future at each professional academy and must be played under floodlights.
In staging tonight’s game at Hillsborough, the Owls will become the first side to host a Floodlit Cup fixture at their main stadium.
Involving eight Category Two and 24 Category One academies, the Owls were successful in their qualification campaign at St George’s Park earlier this season and have been grouped with Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
The academy clubs are split into groups of four and compete against each other both home and away with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the knockout stages.
The Floodlit Cup was introduced so that young players could adapt to the unique demands and weather conditions of evening matches, while also adding more competition for the Under-15 age group.
Good luck, lads!
