Fight to the end

30 January 2017

Carlos Carvalhal has spoken of his pride with recent statistics showing the Owls have scored more late, late goals than any other team in the Football League.

Wednesday have bagged a high number of injury time goals this season, some of which have won all three points, including Steven Fletcher’s penalty against Rotherham and Kieran Lee’s dramatic double finishes against Tuesday night’s opponents Bristol City, and Nottingham Forest.

Carvalhal said: “It’s absolutely fantastic.

“Because this represents a lot of things, it shows how much we want to win games and it shows how much we play with our heart.

“The team plays with a strong mentality and want to achieve goals in the last minutes to win the games, I am very happy with this.

“If you ask me if I would prefer to win 3-0 or 4-0 and have the games calm then of course!

“But the teams we play know they are facing the team that played in the play-off final last season, so they play differently against us compared to last season.

“They don’t mind playing defensive and closing the spaces against us, we understand that and we have to manage that.

“I think it’s fantastic because it represents how much we want to win games at Sheffield Wednesday.”
