The Owls’ Under-23s posted a routine 3-0 win at local rivals Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon, with returning striker Gary Hooper bagging a brace.
Hooper has endured a spell on the sidelines with injury but took his first steps toward fitness with a 50-minute run-out across South Yorkshire.
Jack Stobbs also netted as Wednesday emerged with all three points to cement their second-place position in the Professional Development League.
The Owls raced into a 2-0 lead before half time, with Hooper on target twice, both goals coming from close range.
Cameron Dawson produced a fine save to deny Jacob Brown before the Reds were struck a blow when Cole Kpekawa was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Sean Clare.
Wednesday, who controlled the contest, wrapped up the points when Stobbs converted following a neat give and go with Jose Semedo.
