Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka has been speaking ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with the Owls and says his side are suffering with a number injuries.

He said: "I know how important this competition is in this country and I want to put out the best team to win.

“Antonio Barragan and Viktor Fischer are out for sure. I have doubts with Gaston Ramirez.

“Fabio couldn’t train yesterday and Grant Leadbitter didn’t train yesterday or today.”

Boro signed Rudy Gestede from Aston Villa this week and the striker could make his debut against Wednesday.

He added: “Rudy will be a really good player for us. He gives us something different and I am pleased he is here so early in the window.

“I will have to think but I don’t think he will start from the beginning on Sunday.”

Meanwhile Boro full back George Friend insists the Owls will not be taken lightly when they travel to The Riverside.

Friend said: “It’s a tough game, they’re doing well in the Championship and have always been a big threat.

“They’re a strong side. It’s important we aren’t too ahead of ourselves thinking that we’re the Premier League club now because we’re only just out of the Championship so we need to remember where we are.”
