Owls back blood donation

5 January 2017

The Owls were proud to support NHS Blood and Transplant’s blood donor campaign at Monday’s Championship game against Wolves.

The players donned special t-shirts before the match to show their backing for this most worthwhile of initiatives.

Throughout January, NHS Blood and Transplant are asking the nation to consider that what you give could be more important than what you give up.

With less than 3% of the eligible population actively giving blood, they are asking people to make a New Year’s resolution that makes you feel amazing and saves lives.

Just one hour of your time could save or improve the lives of up to three people.

NHS Blood and Transplant do not have enough new donors coming forward to provide the right mix of blood to match patients’ needs and replace those who cannot donate any more.

The message is to help ensure that patients in the future have access to the blood they need, when they need it. So do something amazing. Become a new blood donor.

Mike Stredder, Director of Blood Donation at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “The New Year has traditionally been a time when people think about giving things up.

“This year we’re asking people to make a new kind of resolution and register to give blood. Or if you’ve already done so but haven’t managed to donate, we’d love to welcome you to one of our sessions in 2017.

“It’s easy to sign up to become a blood donor and book an appointment, online, via an app or on the phone. Each donation can potentially save up to three lives.

“In 2017 don’t just give up, give.”

Register today at blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 to find your nearest session.
