A positive experience

19 July 2017

Carlos Carvalhal reflected positively on the Owls’ third successive pre-season win following the 1-0 victory over Portimonense.

The Algarve friendly saw Wednesday dominate a first half that included a stunning winner from Adam Reach.

The hosts rallied after the break following a string of Owls changes but could not find a way past Keiren Westwood.

Carvalhal said: “This was an interesting test for us. Victory is not everything in these kind of games but, of course, it is better to win than lose.

“Also, we did not take any goals and we did not concede too many defensive situations to the opponents.

“In the first half in particular we had a good dynamic and scored a fantastic goal.

“We closed the spaces well, which is very positive because Portimonense played on the counter attack like some teams play in the Championship, so overall it was a positive experience.”

The Owls continue their Portuguese tour on Thursday with a friendly encounter against SC Farense at Estadio Nora, Ferreiras.

Supporters should note that the game kicks off at 7.00pm as opposed to the original start time of 8.00pm.
