Carlos pleased with Owls' response

26 July 2017

Carlos Carvalhal said he was happy with the Owls’ response in the second half against Doncaster on Wednesday evening after going into the break level at 1-1 at the Keepmoat.

Sam Winnall’s glancing header put Wednesday in front but they were pegged back before half time when Liam Mandeville equalised.

The Owls were dominant throughout and eventually got a deserved winner when Barry Bannan played through Gary Hooper, who coolly lifted the ball over Marko Marosi in the Rovers goal before tapping into an empty net.

Carvalhal said: “Tonight I am very happy with the answers we gave.

“The result is not the most important thing, but the performance was very good.

“We’re in a good way going into the season, tonight we had some players back who haven’t played much in pre-season which is important.

“Glenn Loovens and Almen Abdi got some minutes which is good for everyone because we know we need the whole squad available.”

The Owls finish their pre-season schedule on Sunday when they welcome Scottish giants Rangers to S6.

Carlos is anticipating another different kind of contest and is looking forward to what he believes will be a special atmosphere at Hillsborough.

He added: “Rangers will present a different test and probably more different to the teams we have played in pre-season so far.

“But this is a good thing, this is a positive, because the more kinds of play we experience the better.

“We are always pleased to be back at our home at Hillsborough and we will welcome many thousands of Rangers fans for what I am sure will be a very special atmosphere.”
