Mixed bag for Owls youngsters

31 July 2017

There were mixed fortunes for the Owls youngsters over the weekend as the Under-18s and Under-23s continued their pre-season fixture schedules.

The Under-23s faced Stocksbridge Park Steels at The Look Local Stadium and triumphed 4-2.

Jack Stobbs set the ball rolling after ten minutes for the visitors with a crisp finish from George Hirst’s low feed.

And the Owls swiftly doubled their advantage as Sean Clare struck powerfully into the net following a superb 50-yard dash upfield by Fraser Preston.

Matt Penney made it 3-0 before the break with a thunderous left-foot strike from 30 yards.

And the game was effectively put to bed midway through the second half when Stobbs calmly converted from the penalty spot, though the hosts hit back to halve the deficit with a strong rally late in the game.

Joe Lumsden pulled a goal back for Stocksbridge and George Grayson made it 4-2, tapping home on the rebound after a superb Dan Wallis save.
