Owls striker receives the golden boot award

There was joy for the young Three Lions on Saturday evening as England were crowned as winners of the prestigious Toulon Tournament.

The final against Ivory Coast went England’s way on penalties with the game tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

It proved to be another hugely successful tournament for the youngsters, who stormed through the group stage to reach the semi finals.

Owls striker George Hirst played a pivotal role en route to the title, scoring four goals in Group A, including his impressive treble against Cuba in the 7-1 victory.

The 18-year-old also struck from the spot against Japan in the 2-1 win as England comfortably topped their group.

A 3-0 victory over Scotland followed in the semi finals before England edged out Ivory Coast 5-3 on penalties to lift the trophy.

Earlier in the contest, Hirst saw his first half penalty saved but it proved incidental as England now travel back across the channel as Toulon champions and Hirst as the joint leading scorer in the competition.
