The Owls’ Under-18s were held to a 1-1 draw at Watford on Saturday.
A deflected effort from substitute George Hirst sealed a point for Wednesday, who earlier fell behind to a Hornets penalty.
Overall, a draw was probably the right result as the balance of play was shared and so too were chances.
Wary of the Owls’ threat, Watford adapted a defensive formation which limited openings at both ends.
The likelihood of the hosts scoring was from a dead ball situation and so it proved when they took the lead from the spot just after half time.
Wednesday introduced Hirst from the bench and shuffled their pack, leading to a siege on the Watford goal.
Twice the visitors had shots cleared off the line before Hirst made the breakthrough ten minutes from time to ensure honours were even.
