International update as Owls quartet feature

23 March 2017

Owls duo Barry Bannan and Jordan Rhodes featured on Wednesday evening in Scotland’s 1-1 draw with Canada.

The friendly, staged at Hibernian’s Easter Road, saw the visitors go ahead after 11 minutes through Fraser Aird but Norwich striker Steven Naismith levelled before the break.

Bannan came off the bench for the second half, while Rhodes made his introduction just past the hour mark.

Elsewhere, Owls striker George Hirst was a late substitute in England Under-18s’ 2-0 win over Saudia Arabia in Qatar.

It was the first of a trio of fixtures for the Three Lions in Doha. Next up is a clash against Qatar on Friday.

And finally, Fraser Preston played the final 20 minutes of Scotland Under-19s’ defeat to Austria in Zlin, Letna.

The Owls winger came on after 71 minutes and looked to have restored parity for the Scots in the Euro qualifying contest when his header appeared to cross the line but no goal given.

Ricky Sbragia's side went on to lose 3-0 after Austria converted two late penalties to seal the win.
