Wednesday fan Jodie Goulden has been chosen to run in the London Marathon to raise money for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
When Jodie was 15 she was admitted to the Children’s Hospital with appendicitis, but she encountered complications which meant she may have needed surgery that could have had life changing repercussions.
However, Jodie’s doctors were amazed when on the day of her scheduled operation, it was found that her appendix was back to normal.
Jodie says: “I spent two weeks in there and had the most amazing surgeon and nursing staff looking after me.
“I was lucky enough to be under the care of an incredible surgeon, Dr Godbole.
“On the day I was due to go down to surgery, I went down for one final ultra-scan that they found that my appendix was back to normal and didn’t need to be removed until a later time.
“No-one could believe what had happened and in the words of Dr Godbole ‘I had re-written every medical text book about appendicitis’!”
Now Jodie has been selected to represent the Children’s Hospital at the London Marathon!
She added: “I found out that the Children’s Hospital Charity had one place for The London Marathon and I applied through their ballot.
“I was chosen at random by a patient within the hospital and was the only woman in the ballot of 10 applicants.”
After hearing about Jodie’s charitable challenge, the club invited her to present Fernando Forestieri with his Player of the Month trophy for February before the home game against Norwich.
