O'Grady in Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad

15 March 2017

Owls defender Connor O’Grady has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.

Head coach Noel King announced his final squad for the forthcoming UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifying Round Group 5 fixture with Kosovo.

The game will be staged at Shamrock Rovers’ Tallaght Stadium on Saturday 25 March, 1.00pm kick-off.

This will be the Republic’s first qualifying fixture as they bid to reach the 2019 UEFA Under-21 Championships, which will be co-hosted by Italy and San Marino.

Ireland are grouped with Germany, Israel, Norway, Azerbaijan and Kosovo, who are entering the UEFA Under-21 qualifiers for the first time.

O’Grady penned his first professional contract with the Owls in summer 2016.

The commanding central defender joined the Owls’ youth ranks after spending six years with Manchester United and has been a regular this season for the Wednesday Under-23s.

He made his senior debut for Wednesday in the EFL cup clash with Cambridge United in August 2016.
