Opposition view – Nigel Clough

7 March 2017

Brewers boss Nigel Clough is hoping to see his side continue their recent positive displays away from the Pirelli Stadium.

In their last two games away from home, Burton have posted back to back clean sheets against Derby and Bristol City, both finishing 0-0.

Those fixtures came either side of the 1-1 draw with relegation rivals Blackburn on home soil and with just one defeat in six, Clough believes there is plenty to build on tonight at Hillsborough.

“We went to Derby and tried to be solid but we still wanted to break and score.

“We just didn’t get many opportunities. We did the same at Bristol, but had a lot more situations and opportunities so we are looking for a similar performance to that.

“It’s not about formations, you can be solid any way that you play, but when we have the ball we want to attack and I think we did that with a better balance on Saturday.”

The previous meeting in August saw Burton triumph 3-1 in Staffordshire but Clough expects a very different challenge from Wednesday this evening, as he continued:

“It’s a different team to the one that we faced earlier in the season. They have a lot of players who can hurt you.

“There will be 25-30,000 there and we have to relish it. We will take a good following – our support away from home has been excellent and very vocal in the last few weeks when we have needed it.

“This is what we are in the Championship for to play these sort of games.”
