Sheffield Wednesday are saddened to learn of the passing of former defender Tony Conwell.
He passed away this week, aged 85.
Tony signed for the Owls in January 1949 as a part time professional at just 16-years-old and was promptly elevated to full time status after impressing at Hillsborough.
A pacey and tough-tackling right back, he made his senior debut at the start of the 1953/54 campaign against Manchester City and would go on to play in all but two of the next 20 games.
In total, Tony made 47 appearances for Wednesday in a six-year stint before joining Huddersfield in the summer of 1955.
Our thoughts are with Tony’s family and friends at this difficult time.
